A bit of well intentioned criticism: The dead cat and lab beaker line is great, but your lead utilizes a very tired cliche ( humble pie ). I'd take the same energy and brain that wrote the other line and replace humble pie with a phrase of your own.
You showed farther down that you're capable of doing it.
Cliches are just microplagiarism. You can make that lead your own.
Mine was history, but he didn't teach any history during class, that time was dedicated to discussion about his garden with the actual history material being homework if you wanted to pass the test on Friday for the game. I refer to him as @$$#% 😐
Daniel, thanks for your kind words. I had some great teachers at that HS, especially in English. But this guy was a piece of work.
“He taught as well as a dead cat and had the empathy of a lab beaker” 😆
Had many teachers like that in my time, Ben. Probably why I failed so many subjects!
Another great little story 👍🏼

Jimmy, I appreciate it and will take a look. The black cat and lab beaker just kind of popped out of nowhere, or maybe how I see him today.
Wherever it came from, it's quality writing. Gotta tap that energy right out of the gate.

I can definitely see the relationship between history and botany. I mean look at the Dutch Empire built on tulips.
You are too kind, I wanted to kick him in the bulbs 😯
