Drive along the state roads until you find that mystical place where the road sign says “Swea City 5; Lakota 7; Blue Earth, Minn. 24 miles.” It exists.
Real nice, Ben. Makes me long for a long and winding roadtrip.
I once visited Iowa to see a work collaborator and then we drove from there to Keystone in Colorado, with me at the wheel for a fair chunk of the way. It was a great drive, especially once the Rockies loomed and we made our way up and onto them.
Nathan, thank you. I really appreciate your kind words. I was only in CO briefly, but it sure was beautiful. I imagine that venturing into the Rockies must have been a real treat.
I’ve driven many thousands of miles through every state in this Union. I always pause. One of my favorite is driving a two lane country road on a moonlit night with the headlights off. Just for a few moments of course 😉
This is beautifully poetic Ben and, as someone who is travelling to the US next week for the first time in over 10 years, it has whetted my appetite to once again look upon your glorious land and marvel at its wonders
We’re heading to California. My son (and his aging father too in all honesty 😁) is a big rock music fan so we’re going to the Power Trip festival at a place called Indio next Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that should be good fun
Between 2002 and 2012 we travelled over just about every year and nearly moved to North Carolina and Boston in that time but family matters ended up keeping us close to home
Daniel, that’s wonderful. I know Indio from having attended horse shows there. I remember it being fairly close to Palm Springs. Have a wonderful time.
I drove a lot for several consecutive years, largely teaching jiu jitsu seminars and traveling for tournaments and such. I also visited some friends.
I've been through Montana and Wyoming (just to visit Devil's Tower - completely amazing to me), and of course the Pacific Coast Highway up and down California (I haven't been north of SF yet). The Shenandoah valley might have some of the best driving views anywhere in the world.

Sure was, especially after all that flat farmland.
Cool Ben! Love it. BTW have you ever read “Lincoln Highway” by Amor Towles? Hefty might enjoy it.
Thanks Dee, I really appreciate it. I haven’t read it and will take a look. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a heck of a journey.

Daniel, as always, thank you for such kind words. They mean a lot to me. Where will you be in the US? I’m excited for you and would love to hear more.

Really looking forward to coming back

A beautiful foray through our beautiful country with a poignant reminder of the love of home ❤️
Kim, thank you much. That means a great deal to me. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
The next time someone asks me why I'd rather drive, I'll direct them to this post.
Rebecca, you are very kind, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for reading.

That's awesome. Shenandoah Valley is amazing.
